I finished   my course in boat building  at the Silva Bay shipyard School in August 2005. I started planning on building a boat right after I finished school but as I found out, wood is expensive. I realized I would need to go back to work commercial diving for sea urchins starting in September 05. During the long cold fishing season of 2005-2006 I tried to decide what I wanted to build .  I tossed around several ideas of boats  to construct, such as a haven 12 1/2,  a Gartside again or a Simmons sea skiff,  shown through the winter in wooden boat magazine  . I knew I wanted to build a small boat, that was the only thing I didn't change my mind about . I think the main reason why I didn't finally decide to build a Haven or another Gartside was I want to be non-reliant of a second set of hands    . I was interested in glued lap , but mostly I want to finish the project this summer .  Some how through the mysteries of the  internet,  I was introduced to John Welsford small craft designs . After checking out his site I knew right away that I wanted to build a pathfinder.......
